Description

This position holds the administrative title of Medical Director for the SIU Medicine Express Care site. Incumbent will supervise and manage Advanced Practice Clinicians (NP/PA) assigned to the location. Incumbent will partner with consultants to implement clinical policies and protocols. This position will ensure improved quality, standardization and compliance to regulatory requirements. Incumbent will provide direct patient care, service activities and teaching of learners in the acute care setting.

Examples of Duties

  • Teaching 20%
    1. Teach and evaluate medical students, residents, physician assistants, and nurse practitioner students and other learners as they rotate through the Express Care site.
  • Service 50%
    1. Provide direct patient care to patients.
    2. Serve as a collaborating physician for nurse practitioners and physician assistants at the site.
    3. Manage site medical staff, to include but not limited to: hire, train, evaluate and manage disciplinary actions.
    4. Participate in Peer Review and Quality Improvement Activities.
    5. Assess patient emergencies and transfer patients to higher levels of care according to SIU policies and procedures. Coordinate services to assist patients identified without primary care for follow up.
    6. Serve on the FQHC-wide Committees, as assigned.
    7. Serve on School of Medicine and FCM Department committees.
    8. Participate in community outreach projects.
    9. Remain competent in clinical practice through ongoing education and professional conferences related to license, certifications and the acute care setting.
  • Administration 25%
A. Serve as the Site Medical Director and primary medical representative through supervision and management of site's medical staff. Hire, train and participate in disciplinary actions/terminations of clinical personnel.
B. Oversee medical staff quality metrics and productivity targets.
C. Provide insight for clinic schedule and staffing.
D. Advocate site's priorities and clinical objectives.
E. Ensure coordination of care by maintaining relationships with community partners in order to enhance services and improved patient outcomes.
F. Assist and support in the site's quality assurance and quality improvement efforts related to clinical services.
G. Ensure compliance with the standards of risk, safety, quality and regulatory bodies.
H. Assist with clinic policies and procedures and provide overall medical direction to the clinic to improve efficiency, productivity, patient satisfaction and quality of care.
  • Research 5%
    1. Conduct research in areas of particular interest and publish in referred journals.
    2. Attendance/presentation at national professional meetings.
    3. Per RRC requirements, must complete a minimum of 2 scholarly activities every 5 years.

Qualifications

A. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
B. Must be a graduate of an accredited medical school program.
C. Must be a graduate of an accredited residency training program.
D. Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
E. Must be licensed in the State of Illinois to practice medicine at time of hire.
