National Aerospace Solutions is the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. AEDC operates more than 55 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges and other specialized units located in six states. Many of the complex's test units have capabilities unmatched elsewhere in the United States; some are unique in the world. AEDC is one of three installations which are part of the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), one of six subordinate commands of the Air Force Materiel Command organization and an important national resource.

AEDC's mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, ground, and flight test. Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.
Job Summary:
The successful candidate will serve as an ID&C Engineering Technical Specialist who will work in coordination with ID&C Engineering, Facility Systems Engineering, Project Engineering and Project Management Staff to supporting Capital Improvement and maintenance projects that design, implement, validate, maintain, and upgrade enterprise level steady state and dynamic data acquisition systems. Under the general direction of ID&C engineering staff the selected candidate will assist in the selection and procurement of system hardware; support skilled craft personnel and coordinate activities during the buildup, implementation, and verification phases of design/build projects; perform maintenance activities; and maintain system documentation for enterprise level data acquisition and processing systems.

Job Duties:
  • Select and apply standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
  • Independently perform capital improvement and maintenance project assignments associated with the design, build, installation, verification, application, and maintenance of data acquisition and processing systems per defined system requirements; company standards, procedures, and work instructions; generalized senior engineer and/or supervisor direction; and other precedents of the discipline
  • Participate in one or more of the following:
    • Assist engineering staff in the selection and acquisition of specialized data acquisition and processing system hardware
    • Assist engineering staff in the development of design documentation including design/installation drawings and work instructions
    • Provide on-site technical support and lead craft personnel in the buildup, configuration, installation of instrumentation, steady state and dynamic data acquisition systems supporting capital projects and enterprise system level maintenance projects
    • Analyze and/or evaluate data and system operation during system validation activities based upon techniques prescribed by, senior engineers or supervisors to ensure that systems are functioning to specifications prior to turnover for operations
    • Respond to and resolve measurement and data system discrepancies as they arise during the system validation phase of capital improvement projects. Report problems to senior engineering staff and management
    • Assist in the development of cost estimates for test data and control requirements
    • Lead the maintenance, lifecycle management, and application (test operations support) of assigned fielded systems including:
      • Coordinate with test operation support teams ("Super Users") to ensure eSTARR is meeting test facility and project needs.
      • Ensure best practices are shared between all applicable test teams and facilities.
      • Provide Tier #2 eSTARR support to assigned subsystems.
      • Coordinate usage of common pools of sensors and data acquisition hardware (e.g. DVS, DTS, Netscanner, etc.)
      • Manage critical eSTARR spare pool to ensure spares are available when required.
      • Ensure common pools of sensors and data system hardware are calibrated and traceable to calibration and data quality standards.
      • Communicate root cause and resolution of Lost Test Time (LTT) events and other issues affecting test operations to management and test team members via written LTT reports.
    • Coordinate complex engineering and administrative problems needing resolution with engineers, test customers, and other test team members
  • Monitor and report progress assigned work tasks and ID&C tasks performed by craft personnel under engineering direction.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in a relevant field and seven (7) years progressive and relevant experience; or any equivalent combination of education/vocational training and progressive and relevant education and experience for a total of eleven (11) years
  • Current US Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience and ability necessary to work independently to accomplish tasks required to design, build, implement and maintain instrumentation, measurement, data acquisition and recording equipment.
  • Practical work experience in the design, application and/or maintenance of sensor and data acquisition hardware and systems
  • Practical work experience in the application of ID&C Systems in an aerospace ground test environment
  • Demonstrated experience in working with skilled craft personnel in system buildup, installation and validation processes
  • Active DoD Security Clearance
